Where Does It Go...

Time, that is. First of all, we woke up again at 6:48 this morning so you'd think it would've felt like a long day, but no! All of a sudden it was 4:00 this afternoon and I can't quite figure out where my day went. (This doesn't make me any happier about our rude awakenings, but it does amaze me that we've learned how to occupy our days.) More importantly, Wyatt hit the 7 month mark last week and I can't figure out how we got here so quickly. Seven months! As a few (obviously) non-moms have pointed out to me, he's now closer to a year than he is to being a newborn. I'm already sad that my little baby is growing out of his babyhood. Don't rush it, people!

He's changing so much. At Christmas, he was really good at giving kisses on command. He'd put his hands on my cheeks, lean in and open his mouth against my face. Not really the kind of kiss I want him giving forever, but it was so sweet! But now? Now when I say, "Wyatt give mommy a kiss, please?", he gets a big grin on his face and smacks my face with both hands, then grins some more. He's turning into a squirrely little boy already.

Other things he loves at the ripe old age of seven months:

1. Millie. She's still top of his list and he's getting better every day at rolling or creeping to where she is. I'm having to wash her toys more often and monitor where they end up because hey, what's good enough for her is good enough for Wyatt!

2. Water. He LOVES his bath. He LOVES having his hands washed after a meal. He will contort himself any which way to be able to see water running from a faucet, thought the beach was pretty darn cool and kept a very watchful eye on Nathan today while he played with water in his bucket outside. Jealousy was brewing, I tell you! Give us another couple months and Lisa and I will have the boys in their wading pools while the fruity drink mixer whirs away in her kitchen.

3. Having his teeth brushed. Seriously, we brush his teeth (& gums) every night and he loves it! He also gets great enjoyment from us brushing our teeth - it's a sure-fire way to get a smile.

4. Bananas. But only pureed real bananas, not those store-bought tubs of bananas for babies. He has a discriminating palate! This is a good thing because we can add pureed bananas to just about anything and he'll eat it, but bananas cause us to have to also serve prunes, lest we have issues. Luckily he thinks prunes are okay, too.

5. Fake sneezes. It turns out that if we fake sneeze, he'll CRACK UP! We have video, but it's the one that won't upload to blogger. Big disappointment.

6. His hands. They endlessly fascinate him. He loves watching them open and close, he loves chewing on them, he loves grabbing anything and everything with them. And when you think about it, he's right! Hands are pretty amazing!

7. Rolling. This skill is apparently most fun on the changing table, while getting dressed or while having a dirty diaper changed. Let's just say he's already learning the meaning of a stern "no".

8. Nylon straps. Maybe it's the "if you can't beat them, join them" theory, but he gets great enjoyment out of chewing on any straps that secure him into a seat, stroller, carrier, etc. Oh, and maybe this is the best place to mention he's chewed a hole in his baby bjorn? Nice.

9. Crib toys. On the mornings that the base doesn't feel the need to wake us with reveille, Wyatt wakes us with his own little symphony. He's a young dj! He starts with the dragonfly, rolls to the other end to rattle the dog's plastic handle against the rails and then adds in his cacophony of dada, nanana, goo-ga, blah blah blah. And we love it.

10. His parents. The way his little face lights up when either of us enter a room tells me that he loves us, too. It's the best.
