Wise or Regretful?

Wyatt and I leave one week from today and won't return until December 30, which pretty well encompasses the entire Christmas season. So I've decided we're not putting up our tree because really, do we want to do all that work just to have to take it down as soon as we get back? Now I'm wondering if I'll regret that decision...I mean, it is Wyatt's first Christmas. Am I cheating him out of some milestone?! Help talk me off this ledge.

And by the way, Leslie, this is all because I just saw the picture of Michael in front of your tree. Thanks a lot!

I'd also like to note that I'm feeling WAAAYYYY behind on this Christmas shopping stuff. Therefore, there will be few Okinawan gifts for all of you at home unless you send some specific requests. That was fair warning! This also means that I'll be doing LOTS of shopping when I hit American soil. Poor little me :)

We put up a tree last year - when Andrew was 2.5 - and he claims to not remember it. Christmas for Wyatt is really about you this year. He'll be happy wherever you and Jeff are and we have trees in Kansas. You'll be glad not to have to put it all away when you return.

On sunday the tree went up on Mulberry Street. Thomas is interested but woud rather have his box of toys. Andrew and I layed under it for a bit and discussed the lights and all the fun we would have when Wyatt got to Kansas. Wyatt has a tree for Christmas--it is a special tree for the grandkids ---Dad

I think you should cut down that oddly-shaped evergreen in your front yard, drag it into your living room after moving all the furniture out, and decorate it with yards and yards of popcorn and cranberry strands that you and Wyatt spend hours creating. Or--you could relax and enjoy your little boy and simplify the stress. Either will be fine with Wyatt. You'll have plenty to do anyway to get ready for Wyatt's first opportunity to use his passport. Forget the tree this year!

You could spend tons of time putting it up and then have it fall over like we did! Nice! And who's fault was it? We're still pointing fingers! Forget the tree as your fam said...there are plenty of trees in Kansas for all the photos you want!

If it makes you feel any better Steph, we are leaving mid-December and there is no tree going up in our house either! Call it laziness if you will, but I'm all about less work! Just enjoy your time with your boys...

In case you needed more consensus-- forget the tree. Plenty of trees and sparkly lights in Kansas. If you want you can come next door for tree viewing :) AND as an added bonus, watch Nathan's new skill of standing on the presents in order to reach the ornaments that were supposed to be 'out of his reach'.

I'm with everyone else--forego (did i spell that right? it's telling me that i didn't...) the tree for stress-free pre-holiday-trip-craziness. The hours on a plane with an infant will restore your karma.
Can't wait to see you!

Seeing as how it took me a week to get the tree up and decorated, with the help of Paul and my Dad, I would highly recommend not going to all the trouble since you'll be out of town this year. And it sounds like there will be a beautifully decorated tree in every house you visit during the holidays! Just think of all the pictures you'll have of Wyatt propped up in front of each and every one! Wait a minute, did I say propped up? I meant sitting!!! He's a big boy now :) I know you'll be busy with all of that holiday shopping in America, but I still hope to see frequent blog updates throughout December!

I think you should get one of those little trees (like the ones that fit on your kitchen table and are a foot or two high). That way you have a tree, but not all the mess. Either way it doesn't seem like Wyatt will be missing out on anything this holiday season. It sounds like he has a great tree waiting for him. : )
