Random Musings.

1. My kid doesn't like baby food. He DOES like real food. Gerber bananas? No! Mashed banana? Yes, please! And avocado was a hit, although still a little too chunky. Sweet potatoes are still his favorite. Prunes? Not so much.

2. The Bracys got new bikes. They're hilarious. Ron spent at least 30 mintues this afternoon riding his bike up and down our little cul-de-sac while Millie, Wyatt and I were playing in the yard. I had to ask him, "new bike, Ron?" to which he replied, "yeah! only $18 at the BX!". Bargain, Ron. Bargain. But you know what's cute? He had obviously made the decision to purchase bikes without consulting Eva because he had her new bike and helmet waiting on the front walk for her and was SO EXCITED when she finally pulled onto our street to see him cruising. So off they went, still in their work clothes, around the block on their new bikes. And Lisa? Could you not feel me willing you home? I am so sad you missed this extravaganza :)

3. I'm totally biased, but my kid is getting cuter every day. When we're both on the floor playing, his new thing is to commando crawl to me and lay his head on my leg or try to crawl into my lap. Pretty much melts me every time. And he's really into yelling at Millie to get her attention. It's not working, but it's funny and he now laughs at her. She walks by, he laughs. She plays tug-of-war with me, he laughs. And the best is when I hold him out in front of me and we chase Millie around the house making her do 360s. Then he just cracks up! I love it.

4. My kid is also getting the hang of pushing up on all fours. He doesn't stay that way for too long, but he's definitely getting more consistent. And tonight he started leaning forward from sitting and landing on his tummy. Oh, and he also tried to stand up tonight. Again. It's still not working for him, but I find it a little alarming that he's so intent on being vertical. Fun times ahead, no?

5. I bought a Kelty backpack/stroller today from a girl who'd listed it in the classifieds and I low-balled her price. I do not feel good about this. She was super nice, the backpack is in good condition (she even had the paperwork it came with), she's my friend HAC's neighbor. I COULDN'T EVEN LOOK HER IN THE EYE WHEN I OFFERED THE LOWER PRICE! But I had it on good authority she's been trying to unload this thing for awhile, so.....it was a business deal, right? She didn't have to take a lower price, right? And she didn't take my super low price, but we did strike a deal. And I felt guilty all the way to the car. Then I realized it doesn't collapse flat and therefore might count as a piece of luggage when we try to fly with it (ummm, hello! that's the reason I wanted this thing) and the guilt was pretty much over. Or not. Because I'm still talking about it. Moving on.

6. Have I told you? Wyatt now likes to turn his music on when we go into his room for a nap or for bedtime. He's been pretty into the little boombox* for months now, always looking at the speakers when it's on, but he thinks it's SO COOL when I let him push the button to make it start. And no, he can't really do it on his own so I help him but he's getting closer. He lacks the force it takes to actually push the button. Although today he started swatting at it more, so I think it'll be any day now. So fun to watch him figure things out.

7. *This reminds me, I meant to tell you this the other day! I took Jeff to the airport on Monday and then took some backroads through Naha on my way home. It was rush hour, so lots of people were out and I think I might have seen a Japanese breakdancing team! It was a group of about 7 guys, all dressed alike and the leader was carrying a huge boombox (aka ghetto blaster - I'm pretty sure that's not politically correct!) like I haven't seen since I was in junior high. And he was carrying it on his shoulder like he was the Fresh Prince or something. I was so hoping they would throw down some cardboard on the corner and show their moves, but no such luck.

8. Last thought for tonight: THIS is part of the reason I find solids challenging. The laundry! Any suggestions?

PaRon says: You really should clean up your child between meals----but, why do laundry, just use the same bib each time for a week and then throw it away on Saturday.

1) Oxi-clean is a mom's best friend.
2) Running the washer is free for us
3) I've accepted that stains are part of life with babies. And sometimes, yes, my kid is the scrubby kid I swore I'd never have. :) (The thin mint mess that was my child that you saw this morning is evidence of that). ha ha ha
4) Maybe Wyatt needs a "Sleeping Goo Goo" art smock like Nathan?

I make my kids eat messy food with their shirts off. Morgan 4 1/2 but everytime we eat spagetti she insists that she take it off. At some point this will have to stop as it would be wierd forever, but for now in our house it works and I don't have to scrub clothes.

I didn't know you bought the Kelty stroller (I'm so behind on the blogs right now!). Do you like it??

p.s. We're loving the throw-away bibs right now! Less laundry! =)
